Welding Inspector

About the role

SMEC is seeking a qualified Welding Inspector to ensure welding activities meet project specifications, standards, and safety requirements. The role involves visual inspections, verification of procedures, and coordination with site teams throughout the welding process.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct visual inspections before, during, and after welding operations.
• Verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and project specifications.
• Inspect joint preparation, fit‑up, alignment, root gap, bevel angle and consumables.
• Monitor welding parameters such as pre‑heating, interpass temperature and post‑weld heat treatment.
• Identify defects (cracks, porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, incomplete penetration) and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain inspection records, weld maps, NCRs and ensure material traceability.
• Participate in the preparation and execution of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Witness and verify NDT activities (UT, RT, MT, PT) and attend quality meetings.
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly inspection reports and follow up on corrective actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in welding inspection on construction or infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with applicable welding standards and codes.
• Ability to read and interpret WPS, PQR and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
