Python Data Engineer – AI-Powered Automation

About the role

IBM Consulting is looking for a Python Data Engineer to join the ATS Development Team (DevSecOps CoE) within the Digital Platform Division. You will help build an AI‑powered technical support automation system that processes Jira tickets for connected‑car services, moving from a prototype to a production backend on AWS.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement a Jira‑integrated backend service that detects ticket events, runs AI investigations via specialized worker agents, and writes structured results back to Jira.
• Develop new worker agents that query external systems (vehicle dashboards, logs, databases, monitoring tools) and synthesize findings.
• Create event‑driven data pipelines linking Jira webhooks, SQS queues, and LangGraph investigation workflows.
• Build human‑AI collaboration flows where AI escalates to operators through Jira comments and resumes investigation after operator response.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Strong proficiency in Python, including type hints, async patterns, and modern idioms.
• Experience with Poetry for dependency management and tools such as mypy, ruff, and pytest.
• Hands‑on experience with LLM/AI agent frameworks like LangChain or LangGraph, prompt engineering, and token‑cost management.
• Familiarity with AWS services (ECS, ECR, EFS, Bedrock, SQS, Lambda) and containerised deployment using Docker.
• Knowledge of infrastructure‑as‑code (preferred) and REST API design using FastAPI.
• Experience integrating Jira Cloud APIs (webhooks, issue CRUD, comment management) and working with vector databases (e.g., LanceDB) for retrieval‑augmented generation.
