Design Engineer

About the role

Weir is seeking a Design Engineer to join its Manila team, working hybrid with two days on‑site each week. The role focuses on creating innovative mining equipment solutions that meet high standards of quality, performance and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Generate concepts and detailed designs for excavator buckets, loaders, LHDs, face shovels and truck trays, ensuring compliance with fabrication, welding and bending specifications.
• Develop 3D CAD models and perform finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate product performance and inform design improvements.
• Collaborate with global product engineering, local manufacturing, suppliers and the ESCO fabrication shop throughout design, testing and production phases.
• Provide technical support to fabrication teams, resolve design‑related issues and conduct inspections to verify compliance.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions to enhance product quality and reliability.
• Travel minimally to customer and manufacturing sites as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum three years of design experience in the mining or construction industry.
• Strong understanding of fabrication standards and material specifications.

Required skills

• Proficiency with complex 3D parametric CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
• Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and using simulation tools.
• Ability to create detailed design drawings and specifications.
