ASU Operator

About the role

The ASU Operator will ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of Air Separation Unit (ASU) plants, producing industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and argon. The role involves monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues and following Air Liquide's safety, quality and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor process equipment (compressors, turbine expanders, distillation columns, pumps) via Distributed Control System (DCS) and field instruments.
• Perform routine inspections, adjustments and minor maintenance on rotating and static machines.
• Respond to alarms, diagnose operational issues and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct quality control checks to ensure gas purity and quality standards.
• Document daily operational data, production reports and maintenance activities.
• Execute plant start‑up and shutdown procedures, including pre‑commissioning checks.
• Follow all safety protocols, including LOTO, confined space entry and hot‑work permits.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams, process engineers and facility managers to optimise performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 2‑3 years experience operating manufacturing plants, preferably in industrial gas production.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, PFDs, control and single‑line diagrams.
• Strong understanding of process safety management principles.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Basic knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System, IBM MAXIMO.
• Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, PFDs and control diagrams.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
