Database Administrator (DBA) – Platform Engineering

About the role

You will own the design, deployment, performance, availability, security, and reliability of our database fleet across PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Aurora, MongoDB, and MariaDB. Working closely with engineering, data, and DevOps teams, you will ensure databases are highly performant, scalable, and resilient to support business‑critical workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Administer, monitor and maintain production databases on PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Aurora, MongoDB and MariaDB.
• Design and manage highly available, fault‑tolerant architectures on AWS (Multi‑AZ, read replicas, Aurora clusters).
• Perform installations, configurations, upgrades, patching and version migrations with minimal downtime.
• Plan and execute database migrations (on‑prem to cloud, cross‑engine, version upgrades).
• Implement backup, restore, point‑in‑time recovery and disaster‑recovery strategies, and run regular recovery drills.
• Tune performance through query optimization, indexing, execution‑plan analysis, vacuum/auto‑vacuum settings and connection pooling.
• Conduct capacity planning, sizing and cost optimisation for AWS RDS/Aurora workloads.
• Set up and manage replication (logical/physical, streaming, MongoDB replica sets, MariaDB Galera/primary‑replica) and handle failover procedures.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience as a Database Administrator in a fast‑moving technology environment.
• Strong understanding of cloud database services, especially AWS RDS and Aurora.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
