Tenure-Track Assistant Professor – Machine Learning & Misinformation

About the role

The School of Information at the University of Arizona seeks multiple tenure‑track Assistant Professors to advance research on machine learning, natural language processing, and computational social science, with a focus on misinformation in social media and networks. The appointment begins Fall 2023.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑impact research in machine learning, NLP, and computational social science related to misinformation.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in both online and face‑to‑face formats.
• Supervise student projects and theses, providing academic advising.
• Participate in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary grant teams.
• Contribute to program supervision, curriculum development, and broader academic service.

Required profile

• Demonstrated research record in machine learning, NLP, or computational social science.
• Experience with big‑data computational methodologies.
• Interest in academic leadership roles such as program supervision and student advising.
• Experience working on interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary funded grant projects.
• Strong teaching record and commitment to academic citizenship.
