Technical Buyer – Oil & Gas Procurement

About the role

The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and expediting technical materials, equipment, and services required for oil & gas operations. The role ensures cost‑effective purchasing while complying with engineering specifications, quality standards, and HSE requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Source, evaluate, and procure rotating equipment, valves, instrumentation, electrical components, piping, spare parts and other MRO items.
• Prepare and issue RFQs, solicit bids, perform commercial evaluations and award purchase orders based on competitive offers.
• Negotiate with vendors to secure optimal pricing, terms and delivery schedules.
• Verify material compliance with engineering drawings, specifications and industry standards (API, ASME, ASTM, ISO).
• Maintain strong relationships with approved suppliers, OEMs and contractors.
• Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, planning, logistics, warehouse and QA/QC to resolve discrepancies and quality issues.
• Create and manage purchase orders in SAP, monitor progress and expedite critical items.
• Analyze market trends and supplier performance to drive cost‑saving initiatives and continuous improvement.
• Ensure adherence to HSSE, procurement policies and audit requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or related field.
• 3–7 years of procurement experience in oil & gas, petrochemical or EPC environments.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and rotating/static equipment.
• Experience working with engineering drawings, data sheets and material specifications.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ERP systems, preferably SAP MM.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and Bills of Materials.
• Knowledge of international standards such as API, ASME and ISO.
• Market trend analysis and supplier performance evaluation.
