Tax Compliance Analyst

About the role

The Tax Compliance Analyst position offers a rotational experience across multiple tax functions within GM's Tax department. It is designed for self‑starters who can manage projects end‑to‑end and communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.

Key responsibilities

• Execute monthly and annual closing activities in accordance with US GAAP, including journal entries for withholding tax, VAT and other taxes.
• Reconcile indirect tax activity to the general ledger and maintain documentation to meet SOX requirements.
• Assist in the preparation of tax returns and support internal and external tax audits by providing audit packages and analysis.
• Prepare schedules for month‑end accounting close and deliver clear reporting and data analysis to identify improvement opportunities.
• Interact with business units, global finance teams, and external parties while ensuring compliance with corporate policies and regulatory standards.
• Participate in special projects such as LEAN/Six Sigma initiatives and eventually lead them.
• Utilize SAP (t‑codes, asset module flow) for technical accounting tasks and support Business Continuity Planning (BCP) and Business Impact Analysis (BIA) activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.
• Experience in a shared‑service environment with solid controllership knowledge for profit‑and‑loss and balance‑sheet areas.
• Strong understanding of indirect tax application within the monthly accounting cycle.
• Knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS and SOX/internal control requirements.
