Systems Engineer II (Unix/Linux)

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Open Systems Engineer II to design, deploy, and maintain robust Unix/Linux infrastructures. The role emphasizes performance, security, and high availability while collaborating closely with IT and infrastructure teams to meet operational needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide Level 1 and Level 2 on‑call support for Unix/Linux systems, responding quickly to incidents and service requests.
• Manage and resolve system issues, apply security patches, and perform upgrades to ensure compliance and reliability.
• Schedule, coordinate, and implement system changes following Change Management policies.
• Provision new server builds and configurations according to organizational standards and security protocols.
• Execute capacity planning for storage, CPU, and memory to support business growth.
• Monitor systems proactively, address potential issues, and apply performance‑tuning practices.
• Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, security, and reliability.
• Oversee delegation of accounts and privileges in line with security standards.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support project and operational objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of Unix/Linux server administration experience, primarily with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7+) and Solaris.
• Proven experience in system upgrades, patch management, and proactive security updates.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Solaris operating systems.
• Virtualization expertise (VMware ESX, Solaris LDOMs, Zones).
• Scripting skills in Bash, Python, and Perl.
• Configuration‑management and automation using Ansible and YAML.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts, SAN and NAS storage.
• System performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning for high‑availability environments.
