Senior Tax Accountant (Remote, Full‑time Contractor)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to work remotely as a full‑time independent contractor. You will independently review complex federal and California tax returns, identify issues before filing, and provide expert guidance to our clients.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review U.S. tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S‑Corporations, corporations and fiduciary trusts (Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1041).
• Review staff‑prepared returns for accuracy, completeness and tax‑saving opportunities.
• Research federal and California tax issues and apply findings to client situations.
• Prepare tax projections and support proactive tax‑planning strategies.
• Respond to IRS and state tax notices and assist clients with resolution.
• Manage workflow and deadlines using Lacerte Tax Software and Canopy Practice Management Software.
• Identify process improvements and maintain high‑quality standards across engagements.
• Stay current on evolving tax laws and compliance requirements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of U.S. public‑accounting tax experience.
• Strong technical expertise across multiple entity types.
• Experience with fiduciary taxation and tax‑notice resolution is highly valued.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and communicate clearly with clients.
