Senior Structural Engineer

About the role

WSP is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to lead the analysis and design of high‑voltage substations, renewable energy connections and other power infrastructure projects. The role combines technical expertise with mentorship and collaboration across global teams.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver structural analysis and design for power and energy projects, focusing on high‑voltage substations, renewable energy connections and industrial HV facilities.
• Design and assess GIS buildings, control buildings, switchrooms, equipment support structures, gantries, foundations and related civil/structural assets.
• Prepare and review calculations, design reports, specifications, drawings and construction documentation.
• Coordinate with electrical, civil, geotechnical, architectural, mechanical and drafting teams to resolve interface issues.
• Provide technical support during tender, detailed design, fabrication and construction phases, including responding to queries and reviewing contractor information.
• Plan and manage scope, schedule, budget, quality and technical risk across multiple concurrent projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognised institution.
• Approximately 8+ years of relevant structural engineering experience, preferably in a consulting or design environment.
• Experience delivering work to Australian requirements is strongly preferred; professional engineering registration is desirable.
• Proven experience in structural analysis, design and documentation for steel and reinforced‑concrete structures.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing.

Required skills

• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as SpaceGass, ETABS, Strand7, STAAD.Pro, RAPT, SAFE and IDEA StatiCa.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations.
• Working knowledge of Australian design standards (AS/NZS 1170 series, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 2159, AS 2067) and, where relevant, AS/NZS 7000.
• Ability to develop, interrogate and review structural models independently of software‑generated results.
