Senior Accountant (NZ)

About the role

The Senior Accountant will apply accounting principles and procedures to analyse financial information, produce accurate financial statements and ensure robust control processes across multiple departments. This position supports the finance team in delivering timely reporting and provides mentorship to junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Perform full‑cycle accounting tasks, including journal entries and account reconciliations for assigned areas.
• Prepare monthly financial statements – balance sheet, income statement, cash‑flow statement and trial balance – with supporting working papers.
• Conduct statistical analysis to identify trends, estimates and significant changes.
• Update pro‑formas with actual data and manage relationships with portfolio and operations teams to meet reporting deadlines.
• Prepare financial statement disclosures for GAAP/IFRS reporting.
• Review loan agreements, maintain amortisation schedules and calculate loan payments.
• Assist with year‑end closing, audit activities and provide mentorship to Staff Accountants.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of progressive corporate accounting or financial reporting experience (NZ GAAP).
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset and excellent communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics or similar accounting software.
• Experience preparing GAAP/IFRS financial disclosures.
