Security Engineer – NZ Security Operations & Cyber Defence

About the role

As a Security Engineer you will support, configure, implement and maintain robust cyber‑defence mechanisms that protect enterprise networks, systems and data from evolving threats. You will work within ANZ’s Technology Operations team, contributing to the security of a major banking organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Configure and optimise Zscaler for secure web and cloud services.
• Integrate and operationalise Tenable for vulnerability management and risk assessment.
• Configure, monitor and fine‑tune Palo Alto IPS to detect and prevent network‑based threats.
• Use Mandiant threat intelligence and forensic tools to respond to advanced cyber threats.
• Own and manage NZ ServiceNow workloads for cyber‑defence (incidents, changes, tasks, problems).
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cyber‑defence technologies, execute upgrades and enhancements.
• Provide on‑call after‑hours support as part of a rotating roster.
• Monitor security alerts, conduct deep‑dive investigations and coordinate incident response with SOC teams.
• Perform forensic analysis and post‑incident reporting using Mandiant technologies.
• Collaborate with the compliance team to ensure regulatory and best‑practice security controls.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of defence‑in‑depth and proactive threat‑mitigation strategies.
• Experience working in a 24 × 7 shifting schedule and on‑call rotation.
• Ability to document processes, recommend improvements and support cross‑functional squads.
