Remote Controller – Finance Operations

About the role

We are looking for an in‑house Controller to own the end‑to‑end accounting function for a fast‑growing, woman‑owned social enterprise. Reporting directly to the CEO and partnering with a fractional CFO, you will ensure the accuracy of financial data and support strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Manage full‑cycle accounting, delivering month‑end close in under 10 days.
• Oversee complex revenue recognition and deferred revenue for subscriptions, gift cards, platform credits, and enterprise pre‑payments.
• Handle accounts receivable/payable, payroll coordination, sales‑tax compliance, and reconciliations across a hybrid inventory model.
• Track cause‑partner liabilities separate from standard AP.
• Develop product‑line P&L statements and customer profitability reports.
• Create and maintain SOPs, close checklists, and a comprehensive chart of accounts.
• Lead audit and tax coordination with external CPAs and maintain B‑Corp documentation.

Required profile

• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience (exceptional candidates with 5+ years and heavy deferred‑revenue exposure considered).
• Active CPA license or international equivalent.
• Proven experience in product‑based industries with inventory‑management complexity.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
• Deep expertise in deferred revenue accounting and multi‑channel revenue recognition.
• Inventory management experience.
• Strong knowledge of AR/AP processes and payroll coordination.
• CPA licensure.
