Job description
About the role
The Department of Computer Science invites applications for a PhD fellowship focused on mathematical image analysis applied to sustainable materials. The project is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation‑funded RAPTOR collaboration and aims to develop quantitative characterisation methods for complex, multiscale material structures.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and evaluate mathematically grounded descriptors for 3D volumetric imaging data.
- Benchmark learned visual representations against established image‑analysis approaches.
- Collaborate with domain experts to translate imaging results into material performance insights.
- Design interpretable models linking structural descriptors to key material properties.
- Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed venues and present at conferences.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or a related field.
- Strong interest in sustainable materials such as fibre‑based, porous, or metallic systems.
