Lead Software Engineer (Backend)

About the role

Angkas is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to own and evolve core backend services that power its ride‑hailing platform in the Philippines. You will guide architectural decisions, mentor a growing engineering team, and ensure high‑availability, scalable systems that support millions of daily rides.

Key responsibilities

• Own a set of backend components, driving design, development, and production readiness.
• Lead architectural discussions, especially around event‑driven systems using Kafka.
• Build, run, and support services written in Go, deployed on Kubernetes.
• Maintain 24/7 on‑call rotation and ensure service reliability.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a collaborative team culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and experience with high‑scale, high‑availability systems.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Required skills

• Go (Golang) programming.
• Kafka for event‑driven architecture.
• Kubernetes (K8s) for container orchestration.
• Redis for caching and fault‑tolerant data stores.
• PostgreSQL for relational data management.
