Head of Legal

About the role

The Head of Legal provides strategic legal leadership to support the organization’s business objectives while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate governance standards. This senior role reports directly to senior leadership and oversees all legal functions across the company.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal advisor to senior leadership on all legal and regulatory matters.
• Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with business goals.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance requirements.
• Oversee contract drafting, negotiation, approval, and governance.
• Identify legal risks, develop mitigation plans, and manage disputes, investigations, and litigation.
• Partner with HR, finance, and operations on legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, and transformation projects.
• Lead, develop, and continuously improve the legal team and its processes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law; Juris Doctor preferred.
• Licensed lawyer in good standing.
• Extensive experience in corporate legal practice, preferably within financial institutions or related industries.
• Proven leadership experience managing legal teams or functions.
• Strong knowledge of corporate law, labor law, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
• Experience in contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and corporate governance.
