Financial Controller – Remote (Home‑Based)

About the role

We are looking for a home‑based Financial Controller to own core accounting operations for a growing U.S. company, working closely with the CEO, fractional CFO and external CPA.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monthly close process and prepare accurate financial statements and variance commentary.
• Manage revenue recognition and deferred revenue across multiple subledger accounts.
• Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll coordination and account reconciliations.
• Coordinate sales tax compliance and maintain supporting documentation.
• Prepare product‑line P&Ls, customer profitability analyses and driver‑based management reports.
• Partner with the CEO to define core business metrics and integrate them into the monthly reporting package.
• Collaborate with the outside CPA on tax compliance and other accounting requirements.
• Maintain organized chart of accounts, journal entry log, close checklist and SOPs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience (or at least 5 years managing deferred revenue at scale).
• Direct experience with deferred revenue in multi‑channel businesses such as subscriptions, gift cards or pre‑payments.
• Strong background in management accounting, product‑line P&Ls and profitability analysis.
• Hands‑on month‑end close, financial statement preparation and general ledger management.
• Experience with AR, AP, payroll coordination and sales tax compliance.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and advanced spreadsheet skills.
• Detail‑oriented, collaborative and aligned with mission‑driven, B Corp values.
