Financial Controller

About the role

The Controller supports DLA’s Operations function by overseeing financial reporting, accounting operations, and business support processes. This position ensures accurate financial management, strong internal controls, and operational efficiency while providing leadership across accounting, billing, payroll, and administrative functions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee financial operations and reporting to deliver timely insights for leadership decisions.
• Lead month‑end, quarterly, and annual close processes to produce reliable financial statements.
• Manage billing, payroll, and revenue‑cycle activities ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Develop forecasts, budgets, and financial analyses to guide strategic planning.
• Evaluate and improve internal controls, financial processes, and operational workflows.
• Identify automation and process‑improvement opportunities to reduce costs and boost performance.
• Supervise and develop accounting and operations team members.
• Prepare executive‑ready reporting packages and ad‑hoc analyses.
• Coordinate tax‑related financial data and external reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
• 7+ years of progressive accounting, finance, or operations leadership experience.
• Hands‑on experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
• Experience in professional services firm operations, including time/billing and revenue‑cycle management (preferred).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Netsuite or similar ERP systems.
• Experience using OpenAir or comparable financial/reporting tools.
• Advanced Excel skills.
