Engineered Wood Products Designer

About the role

The Engineered Wood Products (EWP) Designer creates accurate layouts, takeoffs, and structural designs for engineered wood systems. Working closely with sales, customers, and vendors, the role ensures designs meet project criteria, manufacturer specifications, and building codes across multiple regional branches.

Key responsibilities

• Produce EWP layouts, takeoffs, and structural designs using internal and vendor software such as isPlan.
• Develop designs based on defined loads, spans, and project criteria supplied by customers, builders, or engineers of record.
• Review third‑party designs (e.g., Ezequote) for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with Woodgrain standards.
• Coordinate with sales and operations to align designs with order requirements and delivery timelines.
• Identify and implement improvements to design efficiency, turnaround time, and accuracy.
• Maintain awareness of product changes, code updates, and industry best practices.

Required profile

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years documented experience in EWP design, truss design, or structural building components.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment handling multiple tasks and collaborating with geographically dispersed teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Experience using EWP design software platforms such as isPlan, Forte, and Javelin.
• Familiarity with third‑party design review tools like Ezequote.
