Director of Engineering

About the role

The Director of Engineering is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency of the property’s building, grounds, and physical plant. Reporting to senior leadership, this role ensures that engineering services meet guest and employee expectations while protecting assets and controlling costs.

Key responsibilities

• Manage engineering operations, budgets, and capital‑expenditure projects.
• Oversee HVAC‑R, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, water‑treatment, and other building systems in line with SOPs.
• Administer service contracts and ensure fire‑crew readiness.
• Coach engineering leaders to control expenses such as wages, utilities, and supplies.
• Develop and execute long‑term preventative‑maintenance and asset‑protection plans.
• Review financial reports, identify budget variances, and propose corrective actions.
• Lead emergency‑response efforts for all facility issues.
• Supervise construction projects to ensure timely, on‑budget completion.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with 6 years of engineering/maintenance experience and technical training in HVAC‑R, electrical, or plumbing, or an associate degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related field with 4 years of experience and the same technical training.
• Proven leadership experience in managing large engineering teams and budgets.
• Strong understanding of safety, security, and asset‑protection standards.
