Assistant Manager – Buyer

About the role

Makro Philippines (CP Axtra AC Corporation) is seeking an Assistant Manager – Buyer to support category management and sourcing across Fresh, Dry Food, and Non‑Food divisions. Working closely with the Category Manager, the role will help execute buying plans, manage supplier relationships, and influence assortment and pricing decisions as the wholesale footprint expands.

Key responsibilities

• Support development and execution of category strategy, assortment planning, and pricing for assigned product categories.
• Assist in supplier sourcing, negotiation, and relationship management to secure favourable commercial terms.
• Monitor trading agreements, promotions, and margin performance, flagging risks and opportunities.
• Analyze sales data and market trends to identify growth opportunities and optimise product mix.
• Coordinate with Marketing, Store Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure effective category execution at store level.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to Category Assistants where applicable.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain or a related field.
• 3‑4 years of experience in category management, buying or merchandising, preferably in retail, wholesale or FMCG.
• Prior exposure to supplier negotiation or vendor management is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, organisational and stakeholder coordination abilities.
• Experience in Fresh, Dry Food or Non‑Food categories is a plus.
