Assistant Financial Accountant

About the role

The Financial Times is looking for a detail-oriented finance professional to join its Finance team in Manila and support accounting, supplier management, statutory compliance, audit and fixed asset activities. Working closely with the Financial Accountant and the wider Finance team, you will help keep financial records, transactions and supporting documentation accurate and complete, in line with internal controls and Philippine regulatory requirements. The role suits a qualified CPA with audit and accounting experience who wants broader hands-on experience in financial operations, compliance and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Supplier and invoice management: verify vendor onboarding, prepare purchase requisitions and orders, review quotations and invoices, maintain supplier records, assist with payment batches and bank instructions, request supplier statements and aging reports, reconcile balances, prepare BIR Form 2307 and support accounts payable reports.
• Accounting support: prepare journal entry templates, balance sheet reconciliation schedules, month-end, quarter-end and year-end close schedules, and extract data for standard reports and analyses.
• Tax and statutory compliance: prepare schedules for BIR, PEZA and other regulators, assist with monthly, quarterly and annual BIR tax returns, and keep tax compliance files up to date.
• Audit and internal control support: organise audit schedules, coordinate document requests, ensure records are complete and properly filed, and maintain finance process documentation and SOPs.
• Administrative support: coordinate intercompany documentation, help with expenditure coding, track action items, maintain finance system user records and templates, and take part in process improvement projects.
• Fixed asset administration: maintain the fixed asset register, prepare additions, disposals and transfers, prepare PEZA fixed asset reports, carry out periodic physical verification and inventory counts, and coordinate asset tagging and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or a related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
• 2-5 years of relevant experience in external or internal audit, preferably with financial statement audits, accounting processes and internal controls.
• Working knowledge of Philippine accounting and regulatory requirements, including BIR, SEC and PEZA rules.
• Experience in general accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations and supporting schedules is preferred.

Required skills

• Experience with financial accounting software and/or ERP systems.
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
