AS400 Systems Administrator

About the role

We are looking for an AS400 Systems Administrator to provide L2 support for IBM AS/400 / IBM i environments. You will ensure system stability, troubleshoot incidents, and collaborate with internal and external teams.

Key responsibilities

• Provide L2 support for IBM AS/400 / IBM i systems and applications.
• Monitor system health, jobs, subsystems, message queues, and batch schedules.
• Perform incident troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and resolution.
• Manage user profiles, object authorities and security access.
• Review logs, investigate errors and resolve job or program failures.
• Monitor interfaces, file transfers (FTP/SFTP), MQ and data flows.
• Execute backup and restore activities using BRMS and native backups.
• Support change implementations and document post‑incident actions.
• Coordinate with L2, L3 and external vendors.
• Participate in on‑call or shift‑based production support.

Required profile

• 1‑2 years hands‑on experience with IBM AS/400 / IBM i and OS/400.
• Strong knowledge of job control, subsystems, job queues and message queues.
• Experience with spool file management, performance monitoring and licensing.
• L2 application support experience in production environments.
• Basic knowledge of RPG/RPGLE and CL/CLLE (COBOL a plus).
• Fundamentals of DB2 for i and basic SQL query skills.
• Experience with schedulers (Control‑M, Tivoli) and ticketing tools (ServiceNow, Jira).
• Understanding of batch vs online processing and Dev/UAT/Prod environments.
• Familiarity with MIMIX and basic Linux/Windows awareness.
