Tax Specialist

About the role

The Tax Specialist will support Sun Life’s tax reporting, planning and compliance functions, ensuring accurate tax filings and timely updates across the organization. You will work closely with finance, legal and business units to monitor tax obligations and provide strategic tax advice.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor tax compliance and ensure timely filing of tax returns.
• Provide tax updates and alerts to finance and relevant business units.
• Participate in monthly Regulatory Compliance Control Group meetings.
• Maintain and monitor the regulatory reports database.
• Review tax compliance questionnaires for regional and corporate offices.
• Manage tax audits, assessments and relationships with the Bureau of Internal Revenue and local government units.
• Conduct tax training sessions for financial advisors and other staff.
• Support quarterly finance updates and coordinate with finance and business units on tax planning.
• Review tax provisions in contracts and identify tax‑saving strategies.
• Coordinate with industry associations to resolve tax issues affecting the business.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or law degree is a plus.
• Minimum three to four years of tax practice experience, including tax audits and consultancy.
• Experience with tax regulations in the Philippines.
• Prior experience with a reputable audit or tax services firm is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.
