Staff Research Scientist

About the role

Maya is seeking a Staff Research Scientist to lead applied AI research and deliver innovative machine‑learning, optimization, and data‑driven solutions across its financial‑services ecosystem. You will translate complex business challenges into production‑ready AI models and drive the adoption of frontier technologies such as Causal AI and Neuro‑symbolic AI.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and grow a high‑performing AI research team, providing technical direction, mentorship, and strategic leadership.
• Design, prototype, validate, and deploy scalable models that generate measurable business impact.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to move research innovations into production.
• Define and execute research roadmaps aligned with Maya’s AI strategy and business priorities.
• Represent Maya in the AI research community through academic partnerships, publications, and conference participation.
• Apply AI solutions to improve lending, fraud detection, marketing, and intelligent operations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Proven experience in data science, machine learning, or AI research, with a track record of delivering impactful solutions.
• Experience leading and managing high‑performing data‑science teams.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with awareness of regulatory and responsible‑AI requirements.
• Publication record or demonstrated research contributions is a plus.
