Site Director – GBS Customs Operations

About the role

We are seeking a proven operational leader to head the Customs operations at a global transport and logistics organization. As the GBS Customs Local Operations Director, you will own end‑to‑end site‑level customs services, driving compliance, digital transformation and financial performance across multiple countries.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all site‑level Customs operations for 15+ countries, ensuring KPI, SLA and productivity targets are met.
• Manage a team of 250+ staff (managers, supervisors, specialists), overseeing recruitment, talent development and succession planning.
• Own the site Customs P&L (≈ €7‑8 million), budget adherence, cost‑to‑serve models and margin protection.
• Guarantee total compliance with Customs regulations, QMS standards and internal audit requirements.
• Implement the Global Customs Operational Framework locally, driving standardisation and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with IT and automation teams to roll out digitalisation and automation initiatives.
• Act as the primary liaison for internal business units, regional teams and key customers, maintaining transparent communication and strategic alignment.

Required profile

• 7‑10 years of experience in Customs operations/services, preferably within logistics, freight forwarding or shared services.
• 5 + years of experience leading multi‑layered organisations (managing managers) in large‑scale or multi‑site environments.
• Demonstrated track record of operational and financial accountability, including P&L ownership.
• Strong knowledge of Customs regulations, quality management systems and audit processes.
