Senior Quantity Surveyor

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support cost estimation, contract administration and project cost monitoring across its transport and energy infrastructure projects. The role involves preparing accurate measurements, managing commercial documentation and ensuring cost performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Study drawings, specifications and tender documents to produce quantity take‑offs and Bills of Quantities (BOQ).
• Assist in cost estimating, budget summaries and tender submissions, maintaining up‑to‑date cost databases and supplier quotations.
• Support preparation and issuance of tender documents, evaluate contractor quotations and assist with contracts, purchase orders and work packages.
• Track project expenditures against approved budgets, prepare progress claims, payment certificates and subcontractor valuations.
• Monitor material usage, site progress and cost performance, flagging potential overruns to senior management.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, procurement and site teams on cost‑related matters and record commercial actions from project meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in quantity surveying, cost estimation or construction cost control.
• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Excellent numerical, analytical and organisational skills with attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with estimation software such as CostX, Planswift or AutoCAD.
