Senior Design Engineer – Structural & Geotechnical

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead structural and geotechnical design activities for large‑scale marine and infrastructure projects. You will oversee design reviews, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all structural/geotechnical design, review, and endorsement activities for assigned projects.
• Coordinate design work with construction management, project control, and other engineering teams to support construction progress.
• Manage a team of Design Engineers, providing guidance and ensuring timely project delivery.
• Prepare and approve correspondence related to design and geotechnical instrumentation, liaising with contractors and authorities.
• Deliver engineering services for marine facilities such as revetments, shoreline protection, ports, and harbours, including soil investigations, field testing, and laboratory work.
• Design soil improvement, stability, and coastal protection works, covering foundations to superstructure using concrete and steel.
• Ensure designs follow SMEC Design Process Plan and relevant standards (British Standard, ASTM, Philippines standards).
• Review and approve design specifications, tender documents, and technical reports.
• Support tender submissions and project pursuit activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering from a recognized university.
• Minimum 5 years of experience on large‑scale infrastructure or reclamation projects.
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate comprehensive design activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Team player, self‑motivated, disciplined and resourceful.
• Experience in contract administration is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Proficiency with Civil 3D.
• Proficiency with Plaxis.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
