Project Inspector – Powerstation/Civil

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Project Inspector to oversee civil and structural works for power stations, underground caverns, tunnels, shafts, access roads and related infrastructure. The role involves ensuring that all construction activities meet approved designs, specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect civil and structural works, verify compliance with drawings, specifications, method statements and standards.
• Monitor excavation, rock support, concrete placement, reinforcement, grouting and waterproofing activities.
• Witness inspections, testing, commissioning and material acceptance procedures.
• Assess contractor workmanship, construction methodologies and productivity.
• Ensure adherence to project quality requirements and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
• Identify non‑conformances, recommend corrective actions and support NCR closure.
• Maintain inspection records, checklists and photographic documentation.
• Promote compliance with HSE plans, monitor safe execution of underground and heavy‑equipment operations, and participate in safety inspections.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Licensed Civil Engineer (PRC) preferred.
• 8–10 years of experience in civil construction inspection or supervision.
• At least 5 years in hydropower, pumped storage, dam, tunnel, underground cavern or large‑infrastructure projects.
• Experience with underground powerhouse construction, shaft excavation, concrete structures and heavy civil works is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with FIDIC contracts, QA/QC procedures and HSE requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction reporting systems.
