Principal Technician

About the role

WSP is seeking a Principal Technician to lead structural drafting activities across multiple projects, ensuring high‑quality deliverables and mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Responsible for the accuracy of all structural drafting tasks.
• Check and ensure all drawings comply with CAD standards and quality systems before issue.
• Develop drawings from designer sketches to final outputs, maintaining clarity and completeness.
• Coordinate and produce drafting deliverables for assigned projects.
• Mentor staff on drafting procedures and conduct audits of in‑progress and final drawings.
• Perform cross‑discipline reviews, constructability checks and clash detection.

Required profile

• At least ten (10) years of relevant structural drafting experience.
• Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Engineering, or a degree in Engineering/Architecture with three years of related study.
• Experience in a senior team role and exposure to different business models.
• Preferably experience on Australian projects.

Required skills

• High‑level proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, ProjectWise and Revit.
• Advanced drafting and detailing capabilities for structural engineering.
