Principal Industrial Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering

About the role

Western Digital is seeking a Principal Industrial Engineer to lead manufacturing engineering initiatives. The role focuses on driving efficient production operations through strategic capacity planning, facility layout optimization, and continuous process improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop short‑term and long‑term capacity plans aligned with production forecasts and business growth.
• Analyze production demand, equipment capability, and workforce capacity to identify constraints and recommend capital investments.
• Design and implement efficient plant layouts using AutoCAD, simulation and digital factory tools, ensuring lean workflow and safety compliance.
• Lead layout redesign projects for new product introductions, line expansions, or process upgrades.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and industrial engineering methods to improve productivity, conduct time studies, line balancing and work measurement.
• Manage engineering projects and provide data‑driven insights for operational and strategic decision‑making.

Required profile

• Proven experience in capacity planning and manufacturing layout design.
• Strong background in Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
• Ability to collaborate with production, planning and supply‑chain teams.
