OSP Quality Control Engineer

About the role

The OSP Quality Control Engineer is responsible for producing accurate technical drawings and design packages for outside‑plant (OSP) telecommunications infrastructure. You will translate field data into CAD and GIS deliverables, ensuring that all documentation meets permitting and construction standards.

Key responsibilities

• Create detailed technical drawings, route maps, and design packages for fiber optic cable routes, conduit systems, pole placements, and splice schematics.
• Convert field notes, sketches, and survey data into precise CAD and GIS outputs using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ArcGIS.
• Draft permit drawings, traffic control plans, base maps, and as‑built documentation for submission to municipalities, state DOTs, and other authorities.
• Develop splice schematics, fiber assignment diagrams, and conduit/cable design drawings for aerial, buried, and underground OSP environments.
• Update and maintain plant maps, GIS databases, and engineering records to reflect current network conditions and post‑construction changes.
• Coordinate with OSP Engineers and Project Managers to ensure drawings reflect design intent and support field constructability.
• Support permitting efforts by preparing ROW, encroachment, railroad, and traffic control plan packages per jurisdiction requirements.
• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance before quality‑control submission.

Required profile

• 1‑2 years of experience in OSP drafting and as a technician.
• Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
• Experience with ArcGIS or other GIS platforms.
• Knowledge of fiber optic and conduit design principles.
• Ability to produce permit drawings, traffic control plans, and as‑built documentation.
