Legal Officer – Litigation

About the role

The Legal Officer will manage and monitor litigation matters involving the Bank, from mediation through trial, appeal and other legal proceedings. Working closely with the Litigation Department Head, the role ensures proper legal strategy, compliance and protection of the Bank’s interests across various courts and tribunals.

Key responsibilities

• Research, prepare, study and submit pleadings; coordinate with external counsel for submissions in cases filed by or against the Bank before trial, appellate, quasi‑judicial bodies or tribunals.
• Represent the Bank in proceedings before the NLRC, BSP, Court of Appeals, regular courts and administrative or quasi‑judicial bodies, under supervision of the Litigation Department Head.
• Assist Bank units, branches, external counsel, courts and agencies to meet legal requirements for pending or potential litigation matters.
• Provide legal assistance, opinions and conduct investigations to enforce the Bank’s rights and protect its interests.
• Direct external counsel on case strategy and handling as approved by the Litigation Department Head.
• Propose policies, guidelines and best practices for banking documentation and handling of legal concerns and litigation cases.
• Prepare case updates and reports for bank units, branches and management.
• Supervise assigned Legal Assistant, Paralegal, Court Liaison Officers or Garnishment Officers and other department staff.

Required profile

• Registered lawyer.
• Minimum 2–5 years of experience as a litigation lawyer.
• Banking experience is preferred but not mandatory.
