Lead Database Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Database Engineer to design, build, and optimise a suite of AWS‑based data lake, data warehouse and database platforms. The role combines architecture, performance tuning, data quality, and production support across a range of technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain AWS data lake and warehouse solutions using S3, Redshift, DynamoDB, RDS, Athena and related services.
• Optimise PostgreSQL, Redshift, Athena, DynamoDB and SQL Server workloads for performance, reliability, scalability and cost.
• Lead ETL processes, source‑to‑target mapping and data integrations for EMR, clinical, operational and enterprise data.
• Implement data‑quality frameworks, automated validation, monitoring and alerting.
• Develop and maintain metadata, data dictionaries, lineage and technical documentation.
• Ensure backup, recovery, replication, retention and security compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, encryption, auditability).
• Manage production operations, pipeline support, issue triage and release coordination.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews and collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in database engineering, data architecture and AWS data platforms.
• Proven track record of designing and supporting large‑scale data lake/warehouse solutions.

Required skills

• AWS services (S3, Redshift, DynamoDB, RDS, Athena, EMR).
• Relational databases: PostgreSQL, SQL Server.
• SQL and performance tuning.
• Python and PySpark for data processing and automation.
• Data‑quality frameworks, backup/recovery, replication and security compliance.
