Intermediate Data QA Engineer

About the role

An intermediate-level data tester working within a delivery team or the shared pool, reporting to the Data QA Lead. The role covers quality assurance and quality control across the enterprise data management and data development lifecycle, including designing and running tests independently.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in backlog refinement, review requirements and technical specifications, and draft acceptance criteria and test cases before development starts.
• Define, prepare and run data validation, unit, integration, regression and source-to-target tests on SSIS, dbt, Fivetran, Python ingestion and Databricks pipelines.
• Validate technical specifications against finished data products and support post-production data audits.
• Run quality gate checks (accuracy, latency, performance, security) and report results.
• Document defects in Azure DevOps with clear reproduction steps and evidence, and retest fixes.
• Maintain and run automated regression checks and contribute new ones.
• Work with business analysts and developers to clarify scope and expected results.
• Use AI/LLM tools such as Claude and Copilot to speed up test case generation, synthetic data and query review, validating AI-assisted output.
• Follow Agile practices, including daily scrums, testing, code reviews and build releases.
