Group Finance & Operations Lead (Financial Controller)

About the role

We are seeking a senior, hands‑on Finance & Operations Lead to oversee the financial rhythm and operating controls of a small portfolio of Australian entities, including a health and wellness business with physical inventory and a family trust. Reporting directly to an experienced founder, you will be responsible for maintaining immaculate books, protecting cash, and delivering proactive commercial insights.

Key responsibilities

• Full‑stack finance: manage day‑to‑day bookkeeping, month‑end close, accounts payable/receivable and payroll coordination.
• Cashflow management: maintain a granular weekly cashflow operating rhythm to protect and optimise working capital.
• Inventory oversight: monitor stock levels, planning and cost of goods sold to eliminate waste and prevent stockouts.
• Cost optimisation: drive zero‑based budgeting, audit software/SaaS spend and actively cut operational costs.
• Tax strategy: ensure accurate expense categorisation aligned with Australian tax frameworks.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of finance and operations experience with Australian SMEs.
• Deep, current expertise managing Xero across a multi‑entity setup.
• Strong practical knowledge of BAS, GST, Superannuation, STP and FBT.
• Direct experience managing inventory systems, stock control and reorder points.
• Highly analytical, proactive mindset that drives cost‑saving insights.
