Financial Accountant (Remote, Philippines)

About the role

Hunt St helps Australian companies hire remote talent in the Philippines. This Financial Accountant role is filled directly by the client as an independent contractor, with no agency involvement. The client is an established Australian professional services firm offering accounting, tax, advisory and financial services. The role suits someone with a strong background in Australian taxation and compliance who works well in a structured environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders, and assist with month-end and year-end reporting
• Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations, and prepare workpapers
• Prepare and review income tax returns, company tax returns, trust returns and BAS, and assist with FBT, PAYG and other compliance lodgements
• Meet ATO deadlines and flag potential tax issues
• Keep clients informed about missing information and deadlines, and update job progress in Xero Practice Manager (XPM)
• Keep client records and job tracking accurate, and ensure Xero bookkeeping data is clean and reconciled before preparing financials

Required profile

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• At least 3 years of hands-on Australian tax and accounting experience
• Strong written and verbal English
• Preferred: experience in Australian public practice firms, exposure to SMEs, trusts and groups, and independent preparation of BAS and IAS

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of Australian tax regulations and ATO compliance
• Xero and Xero Practice Manager (XPM)
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines

The engagement is fully remote, with availability expected during Australian business hours (about 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday). Pay is $2,500 - $3,000 AUD per month under an independent contractor agreement.
