Backup Waterguard

About the role

As a Backup Waterguard you will support the operation and maintenance of hydro‑electric facilities, ensuring a continuous and efficient water supply to the plant’s conveyance line and penstock intakes. Working closely with the Operations and Maintenance team, the Resource Supervisor and the Network Operations Control Center, you will help maintain civil structures, manage water resources and contribute to safe, reliable power generation.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain hydro facilities, civil structures, intakes, desander/desilting basins, surge tanks and penstocks to guarantee uninterrupted water supply.
• Keep water sources free from silt and obstructions; perform weir declogging to maintain smooth inflow.
• Monitor and adjust water levels in accordance with Water Resource Management standards to maximize utilization.
• Troubleshoot minor system issues, conduct inspections and report abnormalities to supervisors.

Required profile

• Highly observant and detail‑oriented, able to monitor systems during high flow and perform accurate streamflow gauging.
• Proactive in troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis and implementing initial corrective actions.
• Strictly safety‑conscious, applying safety management procedures and protecting the environment.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills for coordination with plant operators, maintenance personnel and the NOCC.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hydro facilities, civil structures and water diversion systems.
• Knowledge of Water Resource Management standards.
• System troubleshooting and basic Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Streamflow/gauging techniques.
• Weir declogging procedures.
