Backend Engineer (Junior to Mid-Level)

About the role

Coins is looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and scale its payment platform used by millions of users in the Philippines. You will work with senior engineers and regional teams, leveraging AI‑assisted tools to design, develop, test and ship Java‑based microservices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and maintain Java (Spring Boot) microservices that support the full payment lifecycle, including acquiring, clearing, settlement and ledger accounting.
• Build and improve reconciliation jobs, exception‑handling flows and monitoring to ensure transaction accuracy and fund safety.
• Integrate with banks, local payment methods, card networks and international partners, gaining exposure to multi‑currency and FX flows.
• Use AI‑driven development tools for coding, testing and debugging, and prototype AI‑powered internal tools.
• Troubleshoot production issues, write clean well‑tested code, and enhance system reliability, scalability and performance.

Required profile

• 1–5 years of professional backend development experience (fresh graduates with strong internships are welcome).
• Hands‑on experience with Java; Spring Boot preferred.
• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written) and business‑level English.
• Solid understanding of computer‑science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms and basic distributed‑systems concepts.
• Strong problem‑solving attitude, ownership mindset and eagerness to learn.
