About the role
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a 12‑month Assistant Professor position focused on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Conversational AI for Computational Law. The role is part of the XHAILe project, which develops explainable hybrid AI systems for legal and e‑government applications.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement conversational AI systems that combine large language models with symbolic rule‑based components.
- Develop and evaluate hybrid AI architectures where language models handle interaction and explanation while decision‑making relies on executable symbolic models (e.g., DCR graphs).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners in law, linguistics, and industry to apply research to real‑world legal use cases.
- Publish research findings in top venues and contribute to the project’s benchmarks and guidelines for trustworthy AI in the public sector.
Required profile
- PhD in Computer Science, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated research experience in NLP, machine learning, or related areas.
- Strong interest in conversational AI, hybrid AI systems, and their application to law and public administration.
