AS/400 Systems Administrator

About the role

The AS/400 Systems Administrator will ensure the availability, stability, security and performance of the organization’s AS/400 (iSeries) environment. You will work closely with internal stakeholders and external vendors to keep the platform aligned with business needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deploy, configure and maintain the AS/400 operating system across the organization.
• Monitor system stability, security and performance; apply patches and updates.
• Manage incidents and problems related to the AS/400 OS, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
• Perform performance monitoring, trend analysis and optimisation of AS/400 resources.
• Prepare regular reports on support operations, compliance and risk for senior leadership.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to evaluate and implement AS/400 tools and technologies.
• Assist in managing the related budget and resource allocation.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience with IBM AS/400 (iSeries) environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Proven ability to manage OS/AS400, IBM i and associated administration tasks.

Required skills

• IBM AS/400 (iSeries) operating system, OS/AS400 and IBM i.
• CL programming, RPG, DB2 and system administration tools.
• Patch and update management for AS/400 platforms.
• Performance monitoring and optimisation techniques.
• Experience with modernising or integrating AS/400 systems into cloud or hybrid environments (a plus).
• Relevant certification such as IBM Certified System Administrator – AS/400 (highly desirable).
