AML Operations Team Lead

About the role

As an Anti‑Money‑Laundering (AML) Operations Team Lead within ANZ’s Financial Crime – Risk team, you will lead a group of investigators to assess customer behaviour and transactional activity, protecting the bank and its customers from money‑laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions breaches and other financial crimes.

Key responsibilities

• Optimise execution of operational processes and AML investigations, including complex cases, to meet service and SLA commitments.
• Oversee quality and accuracy of investigations performed by AML staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations and ANZ risk tolerance.
• Drive continuous improvement in investigation outcomes through capacity and capability planning and forecasting.
• Allocate work to AML analysts and investigators using active operations management to meet short‑, medium‑ and long‑term service targets.
• Conduct regular analysis of quality, accuracy and performance at individual and team levels (approximately 15 staff).
• Support knowledge uplift and training on risk typologies, investigation techniques and risk mitigation.
• Coach, develop and create growth plans for staff across all levels (L1‑L3).

Required profile

• Proven experience leading AML or financial‑crime investigation teams.
• Strong understanding of AML regulations, sanctions, terrorist financing and related risk frameworks.
• Ability to manage operational performance, capacity planning and quality assurance.
• Excellent analytical skills to interpret investigation data and drive improvements.
• Effective communication and coaching skills to develop staff capabilities.
