CAD Operator – Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

About the role

SMEC is seeking a skilled CAD Operator to support the design and documentation of water, wastewater, stormwater and utility infrastructure projects. The role involves producing accurate 2D and 3D drawings, maintaining drawing standards, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, plans, sections, profiles and construction details using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation or equivalent.
• Develop and update water, wastewater, stormwater and utility infrastructure drawings, including layouts, pipelines, utility alignments and site plans.
• Ensure all drawings comply with company CAD standards, client requirements and project specifications; maintain drawing registers and document control.
• Perform self‑checks for accuracy, verify dimensions, annotations, layers, symbols and reference information.
• Coordinate with engineers, designers, project managers and other disciplines to resolve drafting issues and support multidisciplinary design coordination.
• Assist in the preparation of tender, construction and as‑built documentation, using survey data, GIS information and design calculations.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of CAD templates, libraries and drafting procedures.

Required profile

• All‑around experience in CAD work for water and wastewater related drawings.
• Ability to produce both 2D and 3D drawings.
• Familiarity with civil/structural, water infrastructure, electro‑mechanical, automation, instrumentation and control disciplines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation or equivalent CAD software.
• Experience using GIS data and integrating survey information into drawings.
• Strong knowledge of drawing standards, layer management and documentation control.
