About the role
The Senior Information Technology Administrator leads the management, optimisation and support of the organisation's IT infrastructure. Acting as a subject‑matter expert, this role ensures secure, reliable operation of all systems while mentoring junior staff and aligning IT services with business objectives.
Key responsibilities
- Architect, install, configure and maintain servers, desktops, network equipment and software.
- Proactively monitor, analyse and optimise network and system performance, addressing bottlenecks.
- Manage user accounts, permissions and access controls in Active Directory and other authentication systems.
- Design, implement and regularly test data backup and disaster‑recovery strategies.
- Develop and enforce robust IT security measures, including firewalls, antivirus, patch management and regulatory compliance.
- Lead resolution of complex technical incidents via the help‑desk ticketing system.
- Plan and drive IT projects such as system upgrades, cloud migrations, integrations and roll‑outs.
- Maintain detailed documentation of procedures, assets and configurations.
- Coordinate with vendors for procurement, escalation and support.
- Provide guidance, training and mentorship to junior staff and end‑users.
- Evaluate new technologies, recommend adoption and contribute to IT policies and standards.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of hands‑on IT administration experience in a medium to large organisation.
- Proven expertise with Windows and/or Linux server administration, networking (TCP/IP, LAN/WAN) and Active Directory.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with IT service management tools, backup and disaster‑recovery solutions.
- Strong scripting ability in PowerShell, Bash or comparable languages.
- Excellent problem‑solving, troubleshooting, communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and lead technical initiatives.
