Structural Engineer

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to support the design, analysis and delivery of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and related ancillary structures. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to produce design packages, manage documentation and provide construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for bridges, culverts, retaining walls and ancillary components using codes such as AASHTO LRFD, Eurocodes, BS and DPWH manuals.
• Prepare design calculations for gravity, live, wind, seismic and thermal loads and develop conceptual to detailed design packages.
• Create and update structural models in MIDAS Civil or STAAD and produce drawings in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Assist with quantity take‑offs, bill of quantities preparation and value‑engineering studies.
• Support shop drawing reviews, RFIs, material submittals and method‑statement checks, and participate in site visits and inspections.
• Document technical notes, design reports, basis‑of‑design summaries and maintain QA/QC records.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) and a professional engineering license.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in bridge or structural engineering design.
• Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, materials engineering and construction methods.

Required skills

• Proficiency in structural analysis software (MIDAS Civil, STAAD).
• Experience with CAD/BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit).
• Knowledge of relevant design codes (AASHTO LRFD, Eurocodes, BS, DPWH).
• Ability to prepare design calculations, quantity take‑offs and technical documentation.
